Designing an Actionable Dashboard for Floor & Decor

For this project, I was tasked with designing a dashboard interface for Floor & Decor to help users efficiently track and manage action items related to various system components and capabilities. The objective was to create an intuitive, central hub that would streamline task management and improve operational efficiency for the internal team.

TEAM & ROLE

As the UX Designer leading this initiative, I collaborated closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to enhance the Floor & Decor digital platform. My role spanned across various UX processes, from research and ideation to wireframing and high-fidelity prototyping. I focused on ensuring an intuitive and seamless shopping experience, optimizing the digital journey for both professional contractors and DIY home renovators.

WHAT I DELIVERED

Conducted comprehensive user research through surveys, stakeholder interviews, and usability testing. Created wireframes and interactive prototypes to test usability before development. Improved navigation and filtering systems to streamline product discovery. Implemented A/B testing strategies to validate design decisions and enhance engagement

THE BACKGROUND

The challenges

Floor & Decor’s internal teams faced difficulties in managing and tracking their daily tasks, especially across multiple components of their system. The challenge was to design a dashboard that would centralize task management, simplify tracking, and provide easy access to key action items while keeping the interface clean and easy to navigate.

DESIGN PROCESS

Objective

The goal of the project was to deliver a user-friendly dashboard interface that allowed users to:

— Track and manage action items across system components.

— Prioritize tasks with minimal effort.

— Ensure quick access to all relevant information and real-time updates.

The key success metric was improving task management efficiency and user satisfaction, ensuring the dashboard would seamlessly integrate into daily workflows.

Research

Research & Discovery

The first step was conducting stakeholder interviews to understand the needs of the users who would be interacting with the dashboard. Through these conversations, we identified common pain points such as:

— Difficulty tracking multiple action items in one place.

— Lack of clarity on task prioritization.

— Time-consuming navigation to access relevant task details.

Solution

Rethinking the Management

Based on research insights, we created the following solutions:
Centralized Task Management: A clean and intuitive dashboard that displayed all key tasks in one view, allowing users to quickly assess what needs attention.

Priority-Based Sorting: Action items were categorized by priority levels (High, Medium, Low), helping users focus on urgent tasks. Clear Navigation: The dashboard’s layout was optimized for easy navigation, with key areas highlighted for quick access. Real-Time Updates: Integrated notifications and status indicators provided real-time updates on task progress.

REFLECTION

Impact & Reflection

This project exemplified the power of user-centered design in creating a tool that directly addressed the needs of the users. By focusing on task efficiency, real-time data, and simplicity in navigation, we successfully delivered a dashboard that empowered the team to stay organized and prioritize their workload effectively.
